General information about “Vētras Saites” (Storm Links)

Latvīte Cirse (ex.Podiņa) - kokle (Latvian folk string instrument)
Ģirts Pavēnis -  ģitāra, oktāvmandolīna
Jānis Cīrulis   - djembe, perkussion
Ansis Klucis
  -  double bass

In the year of 2008 the photographer Inese Kalniņa asked her friend guitar player Ģirts Pavēnis to play at the opening of her exhibition “Free Frontiers” (male nude photography). Inese set only one condition - “to play anything but jazz”. Thus Ģirts invited the electric kokle (Latvian folk string instrument) player Latvīte Podiņa and djembe drummer Jānis Cīrulis. Together they soon compiled a calm instrumental music program. Although at the beginning it seemed to be a one-day project, the band continued to perform as they received many offers to participate in different events.

Composer of the music basically is Ģirts Pavēnis, but also other band members participate in the creative process. The music of “Vētras Saites” comprises cinema soundtrack-like elements, Latvian and Finnish folk, jazz, and world music. Musicians themselves classify their music as the photoambient genre because they believe that their music goes together with such art genres as photography, cinema and dance. In 2011 the double bass player Ansis Klucis joined “Vētras Saites”.

Later the band also invited the flute player Sniedze Prauliņa and jazz singer Inese Bērziņa to participate in the record of their first album “Teātra krustojums”( Theatre Crossroad).

In 2013, the album “Teātra krustojums” was nominated in the category “The Best Debut” in Latvia. In February 2013, it hit the 20th position of  the World Music Charts Europe. Currently the band continues to perform in Latvia at art events and is working on their new album.

Latvīte Cirse (ex.Podiņa) –  etnogrāfiskās kokles (akustiskā, elektriskā)
Ģirts Pavēnis    –    ģitāra, oktāvmandolīna
Jānis Cīrulis      –    džamba, perkusijas
Ansis Klucis      –    kontrabass

„Vētras Saites” izveidojās 2008. gada nogalē, kad fotogrāfe Inese Kalniņa palūdza Ģirtam Pavēnim radīt muzikālo noformējumu viņas personālizstādes "Brīvās robežas" (Vīriešu kailfoto) atklāšanā. Ģirtam (ģitāra), pieaicinot Latvīti Podiņu (kokle) un Jāni Cīruli (džamba), viena pēc otras radās daudzveidīgas muzikālas kompozīcijas, kuru dēļ ansamblis turpina darbību. No 2011. gada oktobra epizodiski ansamblim pievienojas kontrabasists Ansis Klucis.
